Who is Tara Chapman?

Tara has been teaching students in both public and private settings for 30 years.  She has extensive training in the field of education.  She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction-Reading, and an American Montessori Society Elementary I Credential.  Tara is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), Certified Dyslexia Therapist (CDT), and Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT).

For those students with dyslexia and related learning differences, such as dysgraphia, dyscalculia, written expression disorders, and attention deficit disorders, Tara offers an intensive academic and therapeutic approach to remedial instruction. Additionally, she works with students who do not have a diagnosis of dyslexia, but would benefit from additional academic support to manage specific school subjects.

Specializing in the Remediation of Dyslexia

and Related Language-Based Learning Differences

Tara is specially trained to use Orton-Gillingham methods that are individualized and unique to the specific learner.   Her instructional delivery involves using a multi-sensory approach to teaching language acquisition skills which develop a student's ability to learn to read, write and spell.  These language skills are taught in a manner in which the senses (visual, auditory, kinesthetic-tactile) are engaged simultaneously for optimal learning.  The teaching techniques and intervention strategies used are appropriate for all language learners and are designed to help close the achievement gap.

Tara believes all students deserve compassion, understanding, and the most current, effective evidence-based intervention available.  It is her goal to help all students reach their academic potential.   Many intelligent and capable students struggle to learn the most basic literacy skills.  Sometimes success requires a different approach than what is being taught in a school setting:  a therapeutic approach.  Early diagnosis and intervention are critical.

The language therapy my son received increased his self-confidence, his stress about school and tests decreased, and he began to understand the skills necessary to be successful. I would highly recommend Tara and I feel confident that she has the skills, experience, compassion, and passion to also help your child be successful.
