Academic Language Therapist Training | Take Flight | The Written Word Center for Dyslexia and Learning

The Written Word Dyslexia Therapy Training (TWW-DTT) instructors offer teachers, parents, and administrators an opportunity to train in multisensory teaching, discovery, and mastery techniques to support students with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences.

 

Trainees will learn to implement an Orton-Gillingham based multisensory language therapy program called Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia. The Take Flight curriculum is written by the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas.  Take Flight is a curriculum that is evidence-based and backed by research, read Research Summary.

  • Practicum hours with student(s) which includes 700 contact hours over two years of training.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

FOR AN ADVANCED COURSE

  • Successful completion of the Introductory Course
  • 2 weeks of training
  • 5 workshops throughout the year
  • Continuation of practicum hours with student(s)
  • 100 advanced course contact hours
  • 5 demonstration lessons
  • Additional assignments, book reports, and article summaries
  • Final group project
  • Final paper

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree-official copy of a transcript is required
  • 3 References
  • Application for Introductory Course
  • A passion for working with children

TUITION FOR TRAINING COURSE

  • Introductory Course cost is $3,700*, and includes all Take Flight curriculum materials.
  • Advanced Course is $2,300*, and includes all Take Flight curriculum materials
  • Trainees that are self-pay have the option to remit tuition through scheduled payments.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Tara Chapman | The Written Word Dyslexia and Learning
Tara J. Chapman - Co-Founder, M.S., AMS-EL, CALT-QI

Tara has been teaching students in both public and private settings for over 30 years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction-Reading, and an American Montessori Society Elementary I Credential.

 

Tara is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT) in Texas. Tara earned her Qualified Instructor (QI) professional credential at McKinney Christian Academy’s Multisensory Teacher Training Center in Texas.
