Take Flight Dyslexia Therapist Training

Presented by MCA’s Multi-sensory Teacher Training Center

Hosted by The Written Word Learning Center (Downtown Wheaton, IL)

MCA-MTT (McKinney Christian Academy’s Multi-sensory Teacher Training Center) instructors offer teachers, parents, and administrators an opportunity to train in multi-sensory teaching, discovery, and mastery techniques to support  students with dyslexia and related language based learning differences.

Trainees will learn to implement an Orton-Gillingham based multi-sensory language therapy program called Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia. The Take Flight curriculum is written by the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, Texas.

Take Flight training is currently offered at independent training centers in the states of: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. Children in public and private school settings all over the United States are benefitting from instruction in Take Flight.

MCA- Multisensory Teacher Training Center:

  • Accredited by IMSLEC (International Multi-sensory Structured Language Education Council) to train qualified applicants at the teaching and therapy level standards.

  • An independent teacher-training program accredited by IDA (International Dyslexia Association).

  • Approved by TSRHC (Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children) to offer training in Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia.

  • Certification Opportunity-Enables teachers and therapists to become certified through ALTA (Academic Language Therapy Association).

  • Opportunity for Graduate-Level Credit:  Master of Education degree in Special Education-Specializing in Dyslexia through Midwestern State University, TX.

 
 

Introductory Course

Completion Requirements

  • 2 weeks of training during summer, 2017

    • July 17-21 (Monday through Friday)

    • July 24-28 (Monday through Friday)

    • Classes meet 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • 5 workshops throughout the following school year

    • November 10 and 11, 2017 (Friday and Saturday)

    • February 9 and 10, 2018 (Friday and Saturday)

    • April 7, 2018 (Saturday)

    • Workshops meet 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • 100 Introductory Course Contact Hours

  •  5 Demonstration Lessons

  •  Practicum hours with student(s) – Practicum includes 700 contact hours over two years of training.

  • Additional assignments, book reports, article summaries

Applicant Qualifications

Training Fees and Inclusions

  • Training Fee: $3,400.00 (includes all Take Flight curriculum materials)

  • Complimentary continental breakfast and beverages

  • Observation Fees: $125.00

  • Total Cost: $3,525.00

Advanced Course

Completion Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Introductory Course

  • 2 weeks of training during the summer of 2018 (TBD)

  • 5 workshops through the following school year, 2018-2019 (TBD)

  • Continuation of practicum hours with student(s)

  • 120 Advanced Course Contact Hours

  • Additional assignments, book reports, article summaries

  • Final group project

  • Final paper
